Invest in Your Hair Care Routine
When I say to “invest” in your hair care routine, I don’t mean that you have to spend a lot of money. I mean that you should 1–get the essential products to protect your hair and keep it healthy, and 2–take the time to care for your hair.
As far as essentials go, I think in terms of “wash” and “protect.” Your hair is most vulnerable and fragile when it’s wet. Even after your hair is dry, it’s constantly exposed to the weather and pollution in the air. Here are my hair care faves.
Not all hair towels are created equal. Terry-material towels leave my hair feeling a little bit too dry and I don’t feel like my other hair products are adequately being absorbed into my hair, which leaves my hair frizzy. The solution? Lakeshore Dry Good’s organic t-shirt towel. More than just adorable, these towels remove excess water from my hair without completely drying it out. It took me 14 minutes to blow-dry my hair after using the t-shirt towel, and 20 minutes to dry my hair using a terry towel.
Pro-Tip: if you’re doing a deep conditioning treatment, apply your conditioner as usual and wrap it up using Lakeshore Dry Good’s t-shirt towel! The majority of the product will stay in your hair–not absorbed by the towel.
Hair oil prevents my hair from looking dry, and split-ends. What I really like about this oil is that you can use it as a pre-wash, or apply it to wet hair. I use this product on wet hair and it seriously saves my hair from frizz.
It’s VEE important to deep condition your hair once a month (depending on your hair–when in doubt, ask your stylist). It’s especially important if you have color treated hair. I currently use Blondeme by Schwartzkopf and I would be lying to you if I said this deep conditioner is cheap. My fabulous hair stylist gave me hers as a gift and I probably won’t spend my own coins on it (LOL). So, have no fear! Here is a list of some of my fave deep conditioners:
If you’re like me, then you are at constant mercy of your blow dryer. Whether I want to wear my hair straight or wavy, I have to use a blow dryer. With that being said, a good blow dry spray is probably the most important part of my hair care regimen. I like Kenra’s blow dry spray because it lasts me forever. A little bit seriously goes a long way. Also, you can spray a small mist to dry hair before you straighten it. I find that ever since I started using this, I haven’t had to pull my hair straightener out more than once between washes. The shine holds, and my style holds.
I’m not ashamed to say that I wash my hair once a week. My mane will turn into a huge bird’s nest if I washed it more than that. I don’t have naturally oily hair so I know that everyone may not live by this rule. Since I don’t wash my hair all the time, dry shampoo is a must. I like to use the eco-friendly, cruelty-free Love Beauty & Planet Dry shampoo. This product smells great, and maintains my hair’s volume. It’s easy to blend, and I’m never left with a chalky residue.
Thank you so much for reading this blog! My goal is to do a lot more writing this year. I get a ton of questions about skincare, fitness and lifestyle products and I want this place to be a great source for you. Shoot me an email if there is anything you want me to touch on.
